The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum is a museum located in Geneva (Switzerland). It first opened in 1988 and underwent a significant renovation in from 2011 to 2013. Breaking with the traditional museum, the new layout of the site is designed to introduce visitors to contemporary humanitarian action.
Three thematic areas were designed by internationally renowned architects from different cultural backgrounds: ‘Defending human dignity' (Gringo Cardia, Brazil), ‘Reconstructing the family link' (Diébédo Francis Kéré, Burkina Faso), and ‘Ending fate ‘(Shigeru Ban, Japan). The International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent is nestled at the foot of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a building constructed between 1873 and 1876 by Charles Boissonnas.
