Ace Hotel LA

Ace Hotel LA

Los Angeles, CA

Hotels
929 S Broadway, Los Angeles 90015, CA
The Ace Hotel opened in early 2014 in the historic United Artists building in Downtown Los Angeles. Built in 1927 for the maverick film studio, this ornate, storied and vibrant Los Angeles gem stands as a monument to a group of seminal American artists who pushed out on their own, and anchors the Broadway Theater District's modern renaissance.

Mary Pickford's love for the ornate detail and stone spires of Spanish castles and cathedrals is manifest throughout this true Spanish Gothic temple of the arts, a mixture of reverent awe and irreverent independence.

Guests rooms take their cue from the modernist designs of LA architect Rudolph Schindler while making great use of economical materials. Walls are paneled with homasote boards for warmth, texture, and sound proofing. (An age-old green material made of paper pulp–and a Schindler favorite–the panels are affixed with steel screws and leather construction washers.) The built-in furniture is inexpensive and durable medium density fibreboard that’s been stained black.

There's a spectacular rooftop pool, and the cocktail lounge, called Upstairs, is literally the height of downtown—and the place to take in the city lights and transforming neighborhood.
