Hoteliers Kevin O’Shea and David Bowd’s The Chequit is a 37-room refuge on New York’s windswept Shelter Island, a dreamy summer escape to the sleepy, 27-mile long island located off the northern tip of Long Island.
In it’s heyday, The Chequit hosted Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller. The 120-year-old inn fits right in with this hilly, seaside neighborhood’s many Queen Anne-style gingerbread homes. After the new owners invested $2 million into the aging clapboard inn, it's more than ready for a glamorous new generation looking to get away.
Whitewashed rooms, bathed in natural light, are luxuriously spare, pulling in a combination of colorful Turkish throw rugs, brass lighting fixtures, and a soothing nautical palette of pale blues, pinks and whites.
