Q&A

How does the design of your space (or an element of the design) impact the experiences people have there?

"See above under the first question!"
Q&A

What is the interior design style of your space?

"Cassia is located on the ground floor of Santa Monica’s historic Telephone Building, a 1937 Art Deco landmark, and was designed by Montalba Architects to be a multifaceted environment, where even the semi-private areas celebrate a communal spirit and the timeless enjoyment of food and friends. The airy, 5,000-square-foot space features high ceilings, with polished and textured concrete walls, floors and columns to showcase the beautiful rawness of the building. The light-filled, front dining and bar area captures the high energy of a Parisian brasserie with Italian Calacutta white marble-topped tables; bleached walnut, mid-century modern furniture upholstered in neutral fabrics; and a long bar fronted with white tiles and lined with industrial draft stools finished in brushed, galvanized steel—all of which allow the vivid colors in the food to truly pop. The Wood Grill—an area of the restaurant critical to Bryant’s repertoire of grilled meats and fish—features an antique steel ventilation hood and vintage, iron birdcages he and Kim brought home from a journey through Vietnam. Seating in the Wood Grill includes a communal table and walnut-paneled counter, which draws guests into the action, reminiscent of how Bryant cooks at home for his friends and family. Exuding more warmth and intimacy is the Wine Room, with its contemporary hanging shelving system, and the private dining room that accommodates smaller gatherings of up to 20 people. An L-shaped outdoor patio, enclosed by planters and a blonde wood wall, allows guests to experience Cassia amidst the ocean breezes."
Q&A

What Custom/Original Element do your guests notice most often? What do they say about it?

"The wood-fired grill has a big, beautiful hood that Bryant and Kim salvaged from The Spice Table. Also, the antique bird cages hanging above the family table, which they found on a trip to Vietnam (Kim's birth country)."
