Lazy Bear is chef/owner David Barzelay' laid-back, communal dining style restaurant serving modern American fare in the Mission District. If you're looking for a lively, dinner party atmosphere—and can manage to snag a reservation—this is the place.
Diners are encouraged to interact with each other at two long, natural-wood community tables that look almost like an extension of the bustling open kitchen. Interactions with the chefs are guaranteed in this intimate setting, which chef Barzelay envisioned as a recreation of the home-cooked meals of his youth.
Warmly decorated with mid-century and modern furnishings, the upstairs area overlooking the dining room sets the mood with pre-dinner cocktails and bites.
Opened in 2014, Lazy Bear earned its first Michelin star after one year of operation, then was bestowed a coveted second star in 2016.
