Los Angeles, CA

Restaurants
11043 California Route 2, Los Angeles 90025, CA
Hamasaku is a sophisticated harmony of Japanese cuisine and Californian exuberance. Sincere and succinct, Hamasaku’s literal translation is one who creates food from the sea. Celebrated for its whimsical reverence for sushi and understated elegance, warmth in hospitality and modern sensibilities underscore a quintessential dining experience. Hamasaku was designed by Marwan Al-Sayed, using repurposed materials from the old interior. Its interior presents a striking contrast to the unassuming exterior. Frosted windows add to the sense of seclusion, and a fountain flanked by bamboo trees acts as a serene focal point. Carefully curated pieces from owner Michael Ovitz’s private art collection provide the décor.
Executive Sushi Chef Yoya Takahashi was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan, moved to Los Angeles with dreams of becoming an actor like his grandfather before him in Japan. Now at Hamasaku, as Executive Sushi Chef, he continues to create beautiful and whimsical sushi dishes while merely elevating and simply complementing the freshest and highest quality ingredients he can source.
