Q&A

What motivates and inspires you?

"My work is inspired by the relationship between the physical world and human invention. An essential part of what makes us human is our ability to envision that which does not exist, and then set our actions on redefining reality to equal our imagination. It is this intrinsic connection between our minds and hands that allows the objects we create to function as a reflection of our inner selves and a catalyst for profound experience. For me, sculpture affords the opportunity for numinous experience and what I labor over as a sculptor is finding that point of connection; seeking the vital intersection of irrefutable form and indefinable expression.="

Q&A

What’s unique about your work?

"My work primarily focuses on large-scale sculpture and installation using cast glass as a material for artistic expression, but also includes works in stone, steel, wood and works on paper. I love the presence and dichotomy created by a material that is at once visually light but physically dense. My primary referent in my work is the man-made object. Whether this is architecture, industrial design, landscape modification or small objects of personal significance I use the world of the created object to comment on notions of personal history, experience, perception and memory."
