Designer Sarah Cihat graduated from the Parsons School of Design in 2003, the year her critically acclaimed “Rehabilitated Dishware” collection was also introduced at ICFF.
Sarah went on to rent a shared space in a large ceramic studio in Brooklyn, NY, to transform the collection into a thriving business and to continue her "exercise in sustainability that reincarnates existing products." She also explored additional work in ceramics, slip casting porcelain, glazing and mold-making.
Now, Sarah works from her own studio in Nashville, TN.
Clay is her favorite medium. She is inspired by how it becomes immediately 3 dimensional. She loves the warmth and feel of porcelain. She loves the challenge of making innovative molds and the math and geometry behind the process.
Sarah's work has been featured in numerous publications, including Vogue, Elle, The New York Times, Surface, Wallpaper*, Food & Wine, NYLON, Bon Appetit, Domino, LA Times, Paper, The Washington Post, House Beautiful and Metropolitan Home—and in exhibitions at the St. Etienne International Design Biennial, Salone di Mobile, Museum of Arts and Design Object Factory and Fragiles Exhibit and Book in Miami, Berlin and Dubai.
Sarah co-designs a perfume, home fragrance and apothecary range with Frederick Bouchardy of New York-based Joya. She also maintains an ongoing collaboration with metalsmith Michael Miller and special projects with The Catbird Seat and W Hotels.
Her collection of cast porcelain dinnerware is presently available at Mociun Home, Barneys New York, Food52, and Wilder.
