"Ralph S. Du Casse, a celebrated Bay Area teacher and abstract artist, has died of the infirmities of old age. He was 87.
Mr. Du Casse, who died on Dec. 12, lived in San Francisco. He was on the fine arts faculty for many years at the San Francisco Art Institute, the California College of Arts and Crafts, UC Berkeley and Mills College, where he served for a time as chairman of the arts department.
Mr. Du Casse was a noted abstract artist as well, and his work is in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Brazil, the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco and the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. His work is also in the private collections of Vincent Price, Phyllis Wattis and in the Haas family collection in San Francisco."
