My life as a visual artist started as a young child playing around with crayons, watercolor paints, and pencils. I always knew I had a knack for art, but I didn’t realize how much I would grow to appreciate it until I quit my full-time job back in 2014. 2014 is where my journey as a full-time artist was born. I began painting all the ideas that cultivated in my mind over the years. I started painting pieces that reflect me and the people around me. I love the use of bright colors and bold lines and paintings that reflect the beauty of women.
My art is a mirror reflection into my soul and my thoughts. My journey as an artist has allowed me to meet so many amazing people and showcase my work in various shows around Houston. I love to paint live on stage, I actually painted live behind a Grammy award-winning artist in 2015, which was one of the best highlights of my art career. Currently, I paint live for weddings, teach art classes to adults and kids, paint purses and handbags and much more. I have a mini mural downtown Houston entitled “Houston Dreamers,” which I believe everyone is a dreamer of some sort, we just have to dream it, believe it, and go for it.
My art reflects me. I paint canvas paintings using acrylic, oils, watercolors and mixed media. I typically create pieces that are colorful and bold that represent women of color, different textures, and patterns. I create often because it genuinely makes me feel really good. Art for me is an escape into a world of creativity. It’s the “me time” that I yearn when I want to meditate and get ideas off my chest. The art I create, I create it so that it is relatable to others and that someone may look at a piece and see themselves in what I create. I believe representation matters in art, especially in today’s society.
