Prodigious artist and photographer Petra Collins is a rising talent in American contemporary art. After working with photographers Richard Kern and Ryan McGinley (for whom she was a frequent subject), Collins became a notable talent in her own right. Her editorial work has been published in fashion stalwarts Vogue and Elle, as well as avant-garde publications such as Purple, i-D, and Dazed & Confused, among others. Alongside commercial work for Levi's, Adidas, Calvin Klein and more, Collins has shown in a variety of galleries, including at Miami's Art Basel.
Collins’ distinctive use of color stands out amongst her contemporaries, and her often controversial works focus on the female body, feminism, and gender themes. The artist frequently uses film instead of digital photography to create her dreamy, atmospheric photographs. The influence of Kern and McGinley--who frequently explore non-sexual nudity in their own work--is notable, but Collins' work stands out on its own for its introspection and subject matter. In addition to photography, Collins also works with film, neon artwork, and other mediums.
