"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. Albert Einstein"
My three children were all born on the same day in the same month. Twin boys in 1984, then Lucy in 2004, twenty years and an hour or two apart. A significant gap and surprising coincidence in their birthdates. My art life too has had a gap between receiving my BFA degree from the Layton School of Art and Design and finally as a full-time painter in my studio practice. That thirty some years were filled with art direction, design and creative director positons, collaborating with some very talented writers, photographers and film directors at creative agencies from San Francisco to New York including my own in Minneapolis. Coming full circle, I have been painting and printmaking for the last 15 some years. My paintings are influenced by nature, reading, dreams, travel, archiving, memory and analysis that in turn create a direction. That becomes a series of pieces that I build and work on with success and failure as my guide. In recent work over the last few years I have added cold wax to oil color both powdered and in paint form. Cold wax is purified bee’s wax with solvent. Also charcoal, marble dust and natural elements like sand are sometimes added to the medium creating texture. The layers of paint are built up and edited down creating relationships in shape, color, line and texture. I have been represented by galleries in Minneapolis, Milwaukee, New York and Santa Fe. My work can be found in corporate and private collections in North America as well as Europe.
