I've always loved fabric. I've embroidered, cross-stitched, quilted and sewed. I've amassed stacks of textiles in my sewing room, tucked around the corner from the kitchen in our old house in Bedford, Nova Scotia. But I never really thought about designing my own fabric until an introductory class in screen printing at NSCAD University (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) opened my eyes to the possibilities.
From the start, my patterns have been inspired by this beautiful province: the coastline; its wild spaces; its history.
My current work is focused on quilt making, sometimes in combination with screen printing. Quilt designs are inspired by Anni and Josef Albers, Amish quilts, and the flora and fauna of Queens County, Nova Scotia. I enjoy the process of designing, but also laborious processes such as hand quilting which allow me time for reflection.
