Kelly Allen

Grand Rapids, MI

Kelly Allen is a visual artist and teacher who works with both traditional and non-traditional materials to create paintings, drawings, and sculpture. With a focus on compassion for the planet and its inhabitants, she utilizes reclaimed materials in her work whenever possible. To further her personal impact on the environment, ambition led her to develop and operate a Creative Reuse Center in her home state of Michigan, in order to provide access to reclaimed art materials and a creative space open to all community members, diverting upwards of 8,000 lbs of materials from the landfill.

Allen has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Seattle, among other creative cities. She holds an MFA in Drawing from Kendall College of Art and Design and a BA in Painting from Humboldt State University, and teaches a wide range of artistic practices to people of all ages and abilities. Since working at the renowned Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, CA, she has focused on developing her teaching skills to benefit individuals with developmental disabilities.
