"My intention was never to make art you thought you could not recreate but to challenge you to feel something Mexican, Gay and somehow fabulous"
Having been born in Texas along the Mexican border, raised in Mexico, and then spending the majority of my adult life in the USA, my work is greatly informed by my binational Mexican/American heritage, my queer identity, and the liminal intersection of the LGBTQI and Latino communities of San Francisco. I have explored these communities and concepts through varied and diverse approaches, making murals, sculptures, and art installations that in some way satisfy my own personal curiosity, respond to the immediate context, honor the message, and impact the spectator.
Q&A

How do your pieces come to life? Tell us one interesting thing about your creative process?

"The best murals happen when they get "LOVE" from all over. I have worked in projects where the client actually cares and puts their input into the design or some neighbors stop by to talk or help with some brush strokes. Friends and completely strangers have shown up and helped painting in what has become a community art process where everyone feels a real connection with the piece of art."

Q&A

What do you want people to do or feel when they encounter your creations?

"As long as they feel something I believe my work has been accomplished right there. It would be very magnanimous of me to say that it doesn't matter if the reaction is positive or negative, but the reality is it feels nice when someone likes your work and I will always be thankful you took a second to look into mine in the first place. Most of my work is related to Equality, Freedom, Love and the LGBTQI Community. I would like people looking at my work to try to see the message behind the image (there usually is one and is good!)"
