Hannah Jensen is a powerhouse of creativity. With a passion for the great outdoors, her carved works that she is known for, are often inspired by her time spent in nature. Jensen intricately hand carves her images into layers of acrylic paint on boards; a technique she created in 2003 at Auckland University of Technology. How do your pieces come to life? Tell us one interesting thing about your creative process?
"With my process of layering paint and then carving back into the work, I literally feel like the work, once layered, is already there waiting to be revealed. A bit like painting in reverse, each stroke I am exposing what is already lying beneath the surface."

What do you want people to do or feel when they encounter your creations?
"My hope is to spark some kind of emotion when viewing my works. Especially the large animals, creating a connection between two souls and inspiring more love and care in this world.

What funny moments, unexpected surprises, or obstacles have you encountered?
"It is now a total joy to be able to teach my technique through weekend workshops, something I never imagined but thoroughly enjoy.
