British specialized decorative artist, Grahame Menage is now residing in the US, and has been making a name for himself decorating the homes of celebrities such as Ted Turner, Stephany and Arthur Blank, and Jeff Blauser. Hi-end restaurant commissions include, Restaurant R’evolution and Gautreaus, both in New Orleans, Seafood R’evolution in Ridgeland MS, the Tampa Waterside Marriott, and many others.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Menage draws upon a theatrical background to deliver such
special effects. His formal training included a stint at the famous Bristol Old Vic Theatre
School, before joining the scenic team at the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff, and then
moving on to Englandʼs capital city to work with the National Theatre.
Then he moved into film work, providing artwork for more than three dozen features,
including “Time Bandits”, “Monty Python - The Meaning Of Life” and “Gladiator”.
Now, he specializes in murals and decorative painting, from classic marbling and faux
stone to the restauration of 19th -century painted furniture. Inspired by both dutch and
Italian Renaissance painters, he realized his calling was to continue the ancient
European traditions of creating small scale illusions by taking two-dimensional surfaces
and creating on tghem a three dimensional design.
“In front of my paintings, I intend that the spectator will be deceived” he explained.
Since his carreer change, Menage has created extraordinary trompe lʼoeil designs on
walls and floors and furniture for clients around the world - including clients such as
Ridley Scott, Ted Turner, Soniat House Antiques, New Orleans, John Frieda,
Gautreauʼs Restaurant, New Orleans, and the Emir of Qatar.
“I love to create a dream for my clients”, says Grahame. “I feel like a magician when a
space is transformed with my own hands, and the end results are giving my clients so
Since moving to the USA, Ménage has continued to travel extensively to fill
commissions for homeowners in the South of France and across the United States.
Still, although he never thought home for him would be in the USA, it looks like he is in
Miami to stay.
