Fermoyle Pottery is an Irish owned and Kerry based pottery studio founded by partners Stephen O’Connell & Alexis Bowman. Born in Kerry, Stephen O’Connell completed his apprenticeship with Iveragh Ceramics in 2009. Originating from Australia, Alexis holds a degree in Fine Art and Design from the College of Fine Arts in Sydney, Australia.
Their tableware has been commissioned by a number of restaurants including Aimsir in Kildare, The Greenhouse in Dublin, Aniar in Galway, Ichigo Ichie in Cork & Alta Wine Bar in Dublin. They were nominated by Image Magazine for Best Tableware in the 2019 Image Interior Awards.
Stephen & Alexis produce a standard but an evolving range of pottery. They mostly work in stoneware but sometimes in porcelain, producing hand-thrown and hand-built pots with glazes that are all self-made and experimental.
The pots are fired in an electric kiln and in order to create some lively results they have researched and tested a wide range of glazes and clays as well as wood ashes for use in the firing process.
They attempt to stay true to the qualities they most admire in traditional country pottery. Qualities such as unpretentiousness, the balance of form and spontaneity.
