I pinch and coil build my pottery. Work with my hands and with very simple tools, because I want to have contact with the clay. Feel the clay with my fingertips. This way ceramics have been made for thousands of years. My design language is based on classical, timeless sculptural forms.
I have been inspired by different ancient cultures and found my own expressions. Pueblo Indians who burnish their pots and polish after firing. The Japanese aesthetics with the concept of Wabi Sabi; to take care of the opportunities and strive for the asymmetric and simplicity, is important in my work. I´m also inspired by the non-symmetrical forms of nature.
The singularities behind my ceramics are that I´m always building my ceramics by hand. All items are different, you can´t make an exact copy. I am very sensitive and I let the shapes grow slowly.
I work with the natural color of the clay and its own properties and do not use glazes, but work with the surfaces in different ways. Smooth some parts with a stone to create a shiny surface which I polish with beeswax after firing. Scrape through the surface of the clay to reveal the chamotte in the clay on other parts to get the rough surface that I want.
There is always an irregularity in my ceramics that give tension and life in the shape. As I work with the clay, I become more a means for the clay and do not strive to achieve perfection, but instead, I want to achieve harmony in the irregular. I like to get a relatively heavy vessel to be experienced as graceful and easy.
