"I see nature as the most fundamental source of essence and myth and I am inspired by both its beauty and nourishment, as well as its unpredictability and fierceness."
Raised in communist Ukraine, Lyakir developed a passion for photography as a young child. In 1990 she immigrated to the U.S. with her family. Inspired by the New York City ‘90s art scene, Lyakir studied photography and film at the Museum School of Fine Arts. Her childhood experiences with limited resources and oppression motivated her to pursue her dream of art creating visceral and poetic images.
