"My exploration of the narratives woven into our urban environment is conveyed by the playful interaction between collage (fragments of street posters) and paint."
Mackey explores cities.
She finds forgotten stories told by layers of construction scars, signage, to which she adds old posters acquired from city streets around the world. These posters, advertising everything from music events to political campaigns, offer an urban narrative which playfully interacts with the painted layer.
In her studio accidental discoveries are frequent, they energize a process which hints at other lives and confirms the universal urban experience. Her paintings reveal the city at all levels, from rooftops to sidewalks and from the inner-city to its waterfront edges.
