More About This Creator

Q&A

Is there an essential mix of talents you need to create a space?

"At Blitz design teams are multi-disciplinary and non-hierarchical. They include architects, interior designers, furniture specialists, and graphic designers, and the teams work on projects in unison so that solutions are holistic. Our philosophy is ‘the best idea wins’, and if that idea comes from the graphic designer it will influence the architecture and interior design and the furniture."

Q&A

How did you discover Creators (designers, artists, makers, etc.) and keep your community growing?

"We learn from each other. Everyone on the team has different skills and experiences, and none of us is afraid to ask for input. We provide weekly in-house learning sessions prepared by our own teams, and we also bring in outside expertise via a weekly ‘lunch and learn program’. Our (3) offices are well connected and work together on projects which brings another layer of discovery and experience transfer. We also place a high value on research and learning outside of the studio too, and this includes dissemination of white papers and videos via Slack office Slack channels, as well as participation in conferences."

Q&A

What funny moments, unexpected surprises, or obstacles have you encountered?

"Well the big obstacle right now is shelter in place orders resulting from the COVID19 pandemic. The initial challenge was technical – getting our team mates setup to work from home. But that proved less of an obstacle actually than keeping everyone connected and engaged. Slack, and Google Hangouts have proved invaluable tools in keeping the team connected real-time. We slack constantly and project teams meet via hangouts, but we’ve also established a twice daily, company-wide check in morning and afternoon. We take 20 mins at the beginning of each day to roll call and each team member vocalizes their tasks and goals for the day. At the end of the day we do the same thing and recite what was accomplished for the day. It’s been a great way to stay connected, to stay motivated, and also to transfer knowledge and ideas. It’s been so successful that we think we’ll continue this practice once we get back in the offices."
