April Werle

Missoula, MT

"Filipino-American Muralist"
April Werle is a first generation Cebuano (Filipino-American/Pinay) artist and muralist, her murals can be found both nationally and internationally.

Werle creates artworks that center around the idea of being out-of-place. She jarringly juxtaposes her black and white rendered hand-characters with colorful, surreal environments made up of Filipino motifs and abstracted Rocky Mountain landscapes. These compositions visually express the diaspora experience, of always remaining a minority in both the homeland and motherland.

Having grown up in a rural city in the Pacific Northwest, Werle is passionate about empowering her community by creating more representation for Filipinos living as minorities in homogenous areas.
Wescover creator since 2019
