"Translating Decades of Painting into Glass"
Alex Hirsch creates permanent, site-specific architectural glass installations. Her glass is based in decades of painting and drawing. In the presence of her work, people often feel a sense of relief and delight. Her work is in national and international collections including the City of Portland (Oregon), United States Embassy (Bulgaria), Good Samaritan Hospital (Washington), U.S. Aid (Uganda), Hallmark Corporation (Kansas), ODS Companies (Oregon), Oregon State University (Oregon) and Southern Oregon University (Oregon). The Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon College of Art and Craft, Linfield College, and the Ford Family Foundation have awarded Ms. Hirsch grants to support her work. She made the drawings for Scott Parker’s book A Way Home, published 2018. She completed a public art installation of glass windows, Sky Cascade, late 2018 for Auburn High School. In January, 2020, she installed ten custom works for the City of Portland in The Portland Building. Her training includes a Bachelor of Arts with Honors and Bachelor of Fine Arts Magna Cum Laude from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Fine Arts from Washington University. She developed her glass skills in professional studios in Oregon, Scotland, Germany.
